Who am I

Tânisi, Piyêsiw nitisiyihkâson. Nîpisîhkopâhk ohci niya kayatê ekwa Amiskwaciwâskahikan mêkwâc niwîkin.

Hello, my name is Piyesiw. I am from Samson Cree Nation, Maskwacis, and currently live in Edmonton.

I have been a Full Spectrum Indigenous birthworker since 2016, supporting individuals and families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond. Over the years, my work has also included roles as a reproductive and sexual health educator, trainer, certified Indigenous lactation counsellor, and researcher. I am a mother, a student, a dog owner, a beader and much more.

I’ve received certification through DONA International, as well as Indigenous-led and/or community-based organizations, including Zaagi’idiwin and the Native Youth Sexual Health Network (NYSHN, and Alberta Abortion Access Network. I have worked as a trainer for Cornerstone Birthwork Training, educating soon-to-be birthworkers on Indigenous reproductive care.

My practice is grounded in Nehiyaw knowledge and teachings, community care, and the belief that everyone deserves support that is respectful, culturally safe, and honest. I am committed to harm reduction, bodily autonomy, and meeting people where they’re at without judgment.

Advocacy has been a consistent part of my work, from supporting reproductive justice initiatives and projects to promoting access to sexual and reproductive healthcare for Indigenous youth to engaging in environmental activism. All of these efforts are guided by the same values that shape my work: care, respect and equity, and reflect the connections between health, community, and the land.
